(Start at the beginning HERE.)
"Savior" - Day 29 Luke 2:8-11 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a SAVIOR has been born to you
Most of us wouldn't consider ourselves in need of saving from mortal danger, but the truth is we all are in danger of hell. We get there by having the worst attitude toward God - indifference. God is pure love, He can't help but want to be in loving relationships (true love, not something forced). The cruelest thing we can do is to turn our backs on that love, to ignore it. Jesus came to deliver God's love letter to us, to show us something we couldn't ignore. He had to save us from ourselves. Even though we didn't care about the state of our own souls, Jesus did. He sacrificed himself to save us from hell, which is separation or distance from God. Any good thing we find in this broken world is ONLY from God ("every good and perfect thing is from above"). Apart from Him is the most terrible suffering you can imagine. Thank you God for Jesus, our Savior, who brought us back into your loving presence!
