"I AM" - Day 35

John 8:58

Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I AM!"

There are two very interesting things about this revelation from Jesus. First of all, there is the past tense (Abraham was) conflicting with the present tense (I AM). When reading this, it is very handy to know that Christ exists outside of time when he is with God in heaven (but was bound by time in his human form). Therefore, he could rightfully say he is/was/will be in a state of existence before Abraham's birth - thus showing the characteristic of God's omnipresence, which includes the 4th dimension (time). Secondly, Jesus very clearly called himself by the Name of God - I AM (Exodus 3:14). In the context of John, Jesus was responding to the Jewish religious leaders of the day. They were trying to say they wanted nothing to do with Jesus, and that their ancestral father/example was Abraham. But, when Jesus gave this final remark, they were furious and considered it blasphemy. They could not accept Jesus as God. Friends, let's not make this same mistake, but rather let's glorify God, and Jesus as God with all our might - thanks be to Him!
