Day 1 - Descendant of Abraham would bless all nations

Prophesied in Scripture: Genesis 22:18

Fulfilled in Scripture: Matthew 1:1-17, Luke 3:23-38

Jesus was a descendent of Abraham by both title/inheritance (through his father’s side and family name), as well as biologically (through his mother). The significance of Jesus coming from the line of Abraham is important not only because Abraham was the father of the Jewish nation, but also because of Abraham’s character. Abraham is described as being a great man of faith and his faith is repeatedly referenced in the New Testament (Genesis 15:6, Romans 4:3, James 2:23, Galatians 3:6, and Hebrews 11:17-19). However, the most poetic and beautiful tie between Abraham and Jesus is found in Genesis 22:1-18. In this passage, God calls Abraham to sacrifice his only son and Abraham is obedient up to the point when his knife is poised over his son Isaac. At that last moment, God tells Abraham to spare Isaac, but says that because of his willingness to sacrifice his son all nations will be blessed. Eventually, God does not spare Abraham’s great…great grandson, and God’s own son, Jesus from death. But by Christ’s death (and resurrection), the world is saved. Let’s be thankful for Abraham, his family, and Jesus as his descendant!
