Day 6 - Jesus called out of Egypt
Prophesied in Scripture: When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.
Fulfilled in Scripture: When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.” So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
Israel's past in Egypt started out as one of great joy and providence in the Lord (see the summary of the story of Joseph in Genesis 45:4-7). However, things took a terrible turn for the worse, and they became slaves in Egypt. But God did not forget them, and He sent a deliverer to bring them home. On the other hand, Jesus was in Egypt to escape a power-hungry king. And he was able to return home after that threat had passed. In both cases, Egypt was a temporary phase. Israel was not meant to stay in Egypt, just as Jesus' ministry was not meant to be in Egypt (although his teachings eventually spread there). You may be going through an Egypt in your life - a temporary phase that is either a very bad situation, or maybe not such a bad situation but you know it's not where you are meant to end up. Regardless, let's not be like the Israelites, who left Egypt and forgot about God's deliverance. Instead, let's thank God for Jesus and follow his example in coming home, arriving at the place we were meant to be, and remaining obedient to God.
