Day 14 - Jesus as the Lord's Firstborn
Prophesied in Scripture: And I will appoint him to be my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth. Psalm 89:27
Fulfilled in Scripture: The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. Colossians 1:15, also see Colossians 1:18 and Luke 2:7
Jesus was firstborn over all creation because he is God. He was the first to come back from the dead after his resurrection (we will join him in this when he calls us to our final home to live for the first time as we were intended). He was the firstborn (and only) direct child of God, firstborn son of Mary, and firstborn adopted son of Joseph. Traditionally, firstborn males were heirs of the family estate, and charged with caring for the entirety of the family tribe. After Jesus was born then bled and died for us, God adopted all of us, and Jesus in his richness and mercy takes care of all of us. Let us give thanks for Jesus, our benevolent brother. By his trailblazing, he cared for us when we were still sinners, made a way for us to enter into God's family, and provides for us a perfect eternal home.
