Day 18 - Christ as a light for the world
Prophesied in Scripture: I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, Isaiah 42:6
Fulfilled in Scripture: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.” Luke 2:29-32
In the passage in Luke, it describes the praise a man named Simeon was giving as he held the baby Jesus in his arms. The Holy Spirit had promised him that he would not die until he saw the Lord's Messiah, and God was faithful! Christ even as a baby was so special that the Spirit of God in him roused the Holy Spirit in others. His light shines so brightly! As "deep calls to deep" so the bright love of Christ penetrates the beauty of God's Spirit in our souls. And it is only through Jesus that we can access the Holy Spirit - our illuminating counselor in times of trouble who shows us the way back to our Lord. Thanks be to God that by Jesus all of us in this world can have the light of salvation!
