Why I have come
That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” Jesus replied,
“Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”
So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons. Mark 1:32-39
First of all, could you imagine getting to hear JESUS preach a sermon?!? To sit at the feet of the Master, and hear the love and compassion in his voice - while also noticing the urgency and hurt in his eyes for the broken world, trying to save us from the pit of hell. Christ's mission was to heal the world, cast out demons, and revitalize souls with the authoritative Word of the Lord - his Good News! And in our own way, our mission is the same. We can heal the world by being compassionate listeners, slow to anger and abounding in love. We can cast out demons literally, and figuratively by saying "No!" to the depravity in our own hearts and others. And most importantly we can lift up the hopeless by giving them the greatest gift of all - Jesus! In all the noise and distractions of this world, we must never forget that Jesus is the only way to get to God. Praise and thanksgiving to the Lord for sending us His Son to die for our sins, and to rise up again in victory so that we could reign with him forever in heaven!
