"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." -1 Corinthians 6:19-20
This particular verse is referring to staying away from sexual immorality, but I think that we are called to even more than that. The temple of God was not just a place in which sin had no place, but it was also a location of healing, atonement, and constant communion with God. I believe that the Holy Spirit urges our bodies to bring about healing - between ourselves and God, but also to act as a bridge between believers and unbelievers both, to see their wounds and sicknesses eradicated. Our bodies should move toward justice and atonement for wrongs by using our hands and feet to fight for God's righteousness. Finally, our bodies can be very beautifully physically used to create time with our Father. If you have never tried prayer and fasting - I can't recommend it highly enough! Not only does it open up the time you would normally have used eating as extra moments with Jesus, but throughout the day (or however long you choose), each hunger pang is a reminder to go to our Lord. This is a most powerful tool to move mountains, to win souls, to rebuild God's peace on earth. We thank you God for our bodies, our temples, and above all your Spirit's indwelling there!
