I Will Send Him
"But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you." -John 16:7
As a parent, it is a warming, wonderful feeling to have a tiny baby in a carrier peacefully sleeping on your chest. However, it doesn't really teach them much about being an independent, functioning adult. As much as we want our children to be in our presence, the time will come when they strike out on their own. But, when they do so, we pray that they would take away our spirit, our words, our teachings (things we tried to teach them, and also the sometimes good, sometimes bad example we were for them). For Jesus, His Spirit is so much more powerful, real, and present than this. His Spirit is constantly with us. He will never leave us. Even when we can't remember scripture, when we can't hear God, when life is drained of all color - when we are unfaithful He is faithful! And His Spirit is perfect! While parents and children are very broken human beings with imperfect relationships, God's Spirit is flawless, and His wisdom is always sound. Jesus was only one single man, but His Spirit can change the world through all of us, if we would just listen and answer His call.
