"Shiloh" - Day 33
The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from his descendents, until SHILOH come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
Shiloh is a very interesting Hebrew word, and there are many different interpretations - the exact meaning is still debated. Here are just a few: "whom it belongs", "whom tribute belongs", "he whose it is", and "if only, may it be". Regardless, even way back in Israel's history when Jacob and all of his family had just come to Egypt so they could survive the famine by Joseph's help (and if you haven't read the story of Joseph, or haven't read it in a while, it's in Genesis 37, 39-46), the coming of Jesus was already starting to be announced (Genesis 49:10). Jacob/Israel was the first human to speak of Jesus coming. Before that, God spoke of Jesus multiple times, including to Jacob's grandfather Abraham - three times (Genesis 12:3, Genesis 17:19, Genesis 22:18)! Not to mention the numerous times Jesus was mentioned by the prophets, in the psalms, etc. In summary, Jesus is a really big deal! Jesus as Shiloh - someone of the utmost importance, warrants our attention. If you don't know him, get to know him! If you know him, know him better and grow in your relationship with him. Thank you Lord for Jesus, to whom we owe tribute - our very lives!
