"King of Kings" - Day 36
The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS...
Jesus is a king in the truest sense of the word. In these verses, we see him command the armies of heaven. We see him ready to strike down the evil in Earth's nations, and ruling with an iron scepter. We see him treading the grapes of God's fury into something new - a combination of God's justice and God's grace. Finally we see his label on his outer robes, visible to the world, and on his thigh. In ancient times people as would swear serious oaths they would place a hand on the thigh of the person they were making it to (Genesis 24:2, 47:29). This was a deep sign of trust. As we promise to follow Jesus, let's remember we are pledging our allegiance to the King of Kings - and all he has dominion over. Thanks be to God that we have a perfect king who makes no mistakes, and also a GOOD king!
