"King of the Jews" - Day 43

Mark 15:1-2 Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate. “Are you the KING OF THE JEWS?” asked Pilate. “You have said so,” Jesus replied. To truly appreciate the story of Jesus, it is vital to know the history of the Jewish people. From the first time they chose having a human king reign over them instead of God, their identity was wrapped up in their royalty. Throughout the Old Testament, they constantly wavered back and forth in their faith to God based on the whims of their king. When they had a good, faithful king, they followed God wholeheartedly. When they had an evil king, they gave themselves over to sin in idol worship. Jesus came not as a king of the Jews, but as THE new and final king of the Jews. He came to bring the hearts of the Jews, and eventually the whole world, back to God in a way that had never been done before. And he still reigns today supreme in heaven as our king, showing us how to live and how to love God. Let's give thanks for our GOOD and PERFECT KING, Jesus!
