"Bright Morning Star" - Day 47
"I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the BRIGHT MORNING STAR."
Jesus is also referred to as the Morning Star in 2 Peter 1:19 - "We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the MORNING STAR rises in your hearts." In both cases, this name of Jesus stands as a herald for news from the Lord (in Revelation a testimony for the churches, in 2 Peter a reliable prophecy). And we also see how entirely appropriate it was for a star to herald the birth of Jesus (Matthew 2:2). In the cases with Jesus himself as the Star, he stands as a constant symbol of good news and great joy. And for all eternity when we live in heaven, he will be our sun, our Morning Star: "The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp (Rev 21:23)." Let us give thanks to God for sending Jesus to herald the banishment of darkness, and the dawn of eternal day, because of his victory on the cross!
