"The Way" - Day 48

John 14:1-6 Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”Jesus answered, “I am THE WAY and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Here, Jesus was comforting his disciples before he was going to be crucified. He was referring to his death and his resurrection ("I am going there..." and "I will come back"). And Jesus was also trying to show them that through his own death, he could now lead his disciples to salvation. Because of his own death, Jesus is The Way (and the ONLY way) to Heaven. Imitating him is how we will get there. When we ask "What does it look like to be a Christian?", all we need to do is examine The Way, the way Jesus lived his life as an example to us. However, we always fall short, and so Jesus provides a way through his very self to bring us back into the good graces of our Heavenly Father. Jesus is the path under our feet, we trod on him to gain access to eternal joy. In this world, the rougher and rockier the road we walk on, the more closely we watch the path under our feet - and so it should be with Jesus in the many sorrows and hard times in this life to bring us back to him. But we should also be careful when we are on a smooth and broad road - make sure you give thanks to the one who paved the way for you! Lord, we praise you for your son Jesus who shows us the way to go and who IS The Way for us to reach your glory!
