Be on your guard

November 22, 2016

Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying:

“Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs."

Luke 12:1-3

My dad always used to tell me, "Speak your words soft and sweet for some day you may have to eat them."  How true it is!  You really can't guard your tongue carefully enough to only speak kind words.  And you can't be vigilant enough to avoid hypocrisy in all you do.  Ever get angry at "crazy" drivers while you yourself are over the speed limit?  Have you ever criticized anyone for being late, when you KNOW that you too have fallen prey to circumstances in and out of your control?  Our words and hearts can be used to build others up, or to tear them down and build ourselves up.  Which will we choose?  All praise and thanks to God that He cannot speak in hypocrisy, since He is perfect.  And all He says IS proclaimed from the rooftops for the saving of our souls - His good news!
