HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

November 24, 2016

“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil.

For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen."

Matthew 6:7-13

Isn't it great that God knows what we need before we ask Him?  We are told to not pray "empty phrases."  I think the opposite of that is "full truths", which is what we see Jesus praying here.  He honors God first and foremost - acknowledging that the Lord's will shall be done regardless - very true.  He knows that our Father will provide for us today - also true.  And he knows that by his own actions on the cross, our debts are forgiven - the most beautiful of Truths.  Jesus knows, and has proven, that all temptation can be stood against - we have evidence of this.  And some versions have Jesus rounding out his prayer by again focusing back to our grand Creator - an  honest reminder.  Thank you Lord for this new day, for all things, and most of all for your Son Jesus Christ through whose name we can connect in Spirit and Truth with you.
