At that time Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan River so that John would baptize him. John tried to stop him and said, “I need to be baptized by you, yet you come to me?” Jesus answered,
“Allow me to be baptized now. This is necessary to fulfill all righteousness.”
So John agreed to baptize Jesus. Matthew 3:13-15
We love pointing out Jesus as the rebel, the free-spirit, and the wild card. But in all he did, he worked to further God's kingdom - in all of the fitting and proper ways. To our eyes, some of his acts seemed more off the beaten path than others, but every single one of them was with a purpose. We need this balance also. Sometimes God just needs us to love our families well, go to work and do a good job, keep up with dishes and laundry - different things that are all necessary. Let's not become weary of the small tasks God sets before us, he is making a beautiful story out of our lives the same way he did with Jesus.
