Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.” He answered,
“A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah."
The Pharisees and teachers of the law asked for a sign even though they were supposed to be men of faith. When you walk with God, and the Holy Spirit lives in your heart - He will tell you what is truly from the Lord. It is only when you are unrepentant in sin, or far from the Lord that you need a sign. It's so much easier for us to ask God to show us how to go through a coin toss, or for a simple tangible miracle, than it is for us to be walking with Him everyday - constant in prayer. Signs aren't a bad thing, Jesus did miracles, and there were many signs clearly pointing to him as our Savior, but we should not depend on them. Let's instead walk with God in faith!
