Forgive them

December 22, 2016

Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said,

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

Luke 23:32-34

On a lesser scale, let's be like Jesus and work to forgive those who unintentionally cut us off in traffic, who take the last item at a grocery store, a teacher in the throes of 30 other children who innocently does not notice when our child has been hurt, a church staff trying to do their best to guide a flock of hundreds, and the list goes on.  We tend to generously forgive a large, serious, malicious breach in our lives - notably in the news were the Amish families who immediately forgave the gunman that took their little ones' lives.  However, we hold a grudge if someone forgets to call us back, or doesn't realize they stepped on our toes (literally and figuratively).  Those who killed Jesus knew they were murdering a man, what they didn't know was that he was trying to save their souls, and yet he prayed for God to wash them white again.  For the confused mass around us, we must show them the same mercy and more.
