"Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." -Galatians 6:7-10
It is the end of the day, and you are tired from working, or taking care of your family, or struggling with an illness? Maybe an injustice angered you today. Maybe you had devastating news today. Maybe your heart and hands are full of joy. No matter what, I pray that you would ask God about your harvest. Is your barn full? Are you ready to pour into others? Is your barn empty? Do you need to send out a "bat signal" and rally your community so that you will have just the strength to stand? Either way, God calls us to Himself and to each other. The last verse reveals a beautiful truth - there are seasons to give and seasons to receive. "Let us do good...especially to believers." That means believers need to give to other believers, and that means there MUST be some believers out there who are receiving! Sometimes when we read the Bible, we can lose touch with the Spirit's voice in our heart and all we see is more rules, and that we should be doing more. But that is not always the case! You will reap a harvest if you DO NOT GIVE UP doing good to others, and flourishing in the goodness of others too. Both are important.
