"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline." - 2 Timothy 1:7
Fear, timidity, cowardice - none of these have a place in your heart if you have the Spirit of the Living God. With God comes power, with Jesus comes love, and the Spirit in us is always encouraging us to be the best version of ourselves with self-discipline. All of these are held in tension. Too much power, and you become a selfish tyrant. Too much love, and justice is lost if you are only human, as well as the dangers of gluttony, pride, and sloth. Finally, a little bit of self-discipline grows us to maturity, but too much asceticism and you go from living joyfully to just surviving a cold existence. However, our great Lord models these for us - Jesus is an almighty benevolent king who disciplined Himself first by coming down to earth as human, and then by enduring the cross. Let's be His hands and feet in loving action to captivate the hearts of the world, and in the process let us not lose ourselves too far to the right or left.
