"For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: 'This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.' Then he adds: 'Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.' " -Hebrews 10:15-17
By the Spirit of Jesus, we have God's imprint on our hearts. Our minds are cleansed, and God removes all our sins. Gone! Jesus dying on the cross made us perfect in God's eyes forever! How can this be? It is too amazing! Through this one act, our Savior restores us to the Lord's family. A spirit of restoration - what if we applied this to everything in our world? What would our justice system look like? Mako Nagasawa talks about how this would affect criminal justice in terms of the old testament, basically that when the bible discusses an "eye for an eye" - the idea is more about a restorative relationship than retributive justice. If someone loses an eye at the hand of someone else, then the perpetrator should then "be the eye" for the person who was injured (not gouge their own eye out). It's about creating a relationship for justice. When God's law makes its home in our hearts, by the Spirit's wisdom, we strive to find the better, more loving way of doing things, which not ignoring the Lord's yearning for righteousness. Jesus as our example, we CAN and shall do the same with His Spirit!
