"Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the gate of the house of the Lord that faces east. There at the entrance of the gate were twenty-five men, and I saw among them Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, leaders of the people. The Lord said to me, 'Son of man, these are the men who are plotting evil and giving wicked advice in this city.' ...And I told the exiles everything the Lord had shown me." -Ezekiel 11:1-2, 25
My sisters, my brothers - sometimes we hear or see total atrocities happening in this world. Maybe to strangers, maybe to our loved ones, maybe to our leaders. Or maybe we/they are the perpetrators. If you are a Christian, then you are called to combat this. If it's something in your self, then see to it that you make reparations - with an emphasis on humbly seeking forgiveness, restorative justice, and rebuilding relationships. If our loved ones, then gently try to restore them (Matthew 18:15-17). If our leaders (who we should ALL be praying for by the way!), then gather together believers and seek the Spirit's wisdom for the best course of action (there are many very interesting and varying accounts of what this looked like during World War II here). Regardless, we are NOT called to turn a blind eye. We are called to engage. Seek wisdom and knowledge first. Be quick to listen. Only after doing those things in the presence of the Holy Spirit, should we then act. But when we do act, we need to do it whole-heartedly because we Christ's brilliant light in this dark world - a world that waits for rescue.
