"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you." - John 14:26
Jesus was about to face the cross. He wanted to comfort his disciples. The very best thing He could do for them was to send them the Comforter Himself - the Holy Spirit. He was to set the model for what was to come. That is, the end of death. If our loved ones never really left us, would death have such a hold on us? Jesus was trying to alleviate the grief of those who were about to suffer great loss. Because this is a fallen, broken world, and we are mortal (for now), the next best thing would be to prove that death is only a temporary separation. While it is so tragic and hard to experience the loss of a loved one, our hearts can feel some ease in the faith of Jesus breaking death's permanent hold. Just as He rose from the grave, we can be sure that if we put our trust in Him then we can and will do the same.
